People who study structuralism try to find the meaning of all words in all languages. They look for the overall meaning in all structures. There have always been something missing and, thus, the absence of a ground to explain all of language. In the Post Structuralism days scholars believed (almost identical to the formalist) that communication was on the grounds that all words shared the same universal meaning. The ideology of structuralism in simpler terms is just the understanding of the overall structure that is taking place. What I interpreted from this chapter is that this technique is just like a cause and effect. Scholars just take a word, analyze it and create their own multiple interpretations about the word.
To understand God, one has to have vast knowledge of the devil first. This is Deconstruction at its finest. Deconstruction is the deconstructing of words themselves in sense. Every day we look at a word and assume that automatically that this word has an essential meaning to and nothing else, right? Well this is where you would be wrong. Structuralism pay attention to the overall text, they labor within the text and nothing else. There whole ideology is that, words have different meaning to them. They do not believe that one word has just one concept or one way of comprehension in them. People who practice this technique (Structuralism) have multiple meanings to every word, because they look at every aspect of the word. These people play of the format of wordplay and puns.
Signified and signifiers are a clear example of this notion. Signifiers are basically the written word or punctuation of the word. While the Signified are just the signs, or the incepted thought that comes about when the word is presented to you. Let’s take the word cat for example. Cat normal has the meaning of representation of an animal. But to another person on the street the idea of a cat can be a person. This is what signified and signifier mean.
A different interpretation is the name of the game in Deconstruction. Explaining a term or even logic itself first requires one to know something that is completely opposite from the text. Another way of explaining deconstruction is that in a sense you have to keep continuously keep using other words to first grasp the understanding of the essential word to begin with. The whole ideology of Deconstruction is complex beyond complex because there are so many ways of breaking down a word and taking the smaller parts of the word and then explaining those smaller parts that appear in the original word itself. This whole practice is very ludicrous but somewhat interesting. Deconstruction is just the idea that there are different interpretations that can be spotted in a word. Communication as a whole is an ever changing practice that will continue the cycle of having multiple meanings. This whole process of communication is the magic of conversing in the first place, because no word has the same meaning over time.
